Currently I am using a pair of Behringer UMC404HD I/O units for mixing because the right main buss of the Behringer MX2642 is not working consistently. I was reasonably satisfied with the MX2642 because it had enough I/O channels that I didn't have to spend time swapping patch cables and the four buses were sufficient for most of my routing needs. I have had that mixer since the early 1990's and it's been reliable but about a year and a half ago it started to have problems with the right main output. There were also a couple of faders that had some glitches, probably because some coke was spilled on it when I was living in Singapore. I have been putting off replacing it for a while because I have been waiting to find an affordable mixer with digital I/O to go into my DAW. I have mostly settled on getting a Behringer X32 Compact as this mixer should be more than adequate for all my production needs over the next several years. It's a 40 channel 25 bus mixer that can be used as a DAW control surface and has so many options that I almost don't know where to begin. There is one minor concern that there is not any unbalanced line inputs so I will have to spend and additional $138.00 for an 8 channel direct box so I can plug in my keyboards and other line instruments but I'll live with that for now. As far as a computer and DAW software goes, I'm currently running Reaper on a Dell Inspiron laptop. I will continue using that for mobile recording but I am wanting to build a computer for the studio that will provide sufficient power to satisfy all my anticipated recording needs including video processing.
